The Town of Huntsville operates under a charter form of government. The governing body consists of a mayor and four aldermen. A municipal election is held every four years. The next election will be in November 2024.
Requirements For Office
Candidates for mayor or alderman must have resided within the Town of Huntsville’s corporate limits for at least one year preceding the election. The mayor and aldermen must continue to reside inside the town while they’re in office.
Responsibilities
The mayor acts as the chief executive officer of the town and presides over all meetings of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. As a member of the board, the mayor can make motions and has a vote in any matters coming before the board. The vice mayor acts as mayor when the mayor is absent or unable to fulfill his duties.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen meet the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
